Oh my goodness - this book is HILARIOUS!! I am listening in audio format and this author is FUNNY! I'm only at chapter for (35 minutes into a 6-hour in-cheek style. I am loving this book!

I was a bit unsure of Eliza at the start of this book because I generally don't connect with the "I got dumped/divorced/ cheated on by my louse of a spouse/boyfriend so I have returned to my small hometown to recover, where I'll get mixed up in murder" trope in a cozy. But Eliza just said she loves Anne Shirley, so now I love her, because anyone who loves Anne is "my people".

I am really enjoying this book! It is giving a very mysterious and almost gothic "Witness for the Prosecution" vibe. The main character is hard to figure out, which I know is intentional but I like her a lot. Very intriguing read so far.

Warning: "Get off my lawn" post. Can someone - ANYONE tell me WHY in the name of all that is holy, it seems the ONLY ERA any author seems to be writing about these days is WWII??!! Every other book I look at lately - enough, already! There are other eras to set a book in than the horrifying, depressing Nazi era. Please authors, could we have good stories set in other times?! Rant ended, thank you.

Already loving this book! The prose is lyrical and beautiful, flowing like cool water over my eyes and into my brain but even more importantly, the story has immediately drawn me fully into the world it is building, and the characters are so well-written that I have instantly connected to them.

I started reading this after finishing my previous book, thinking I'd read a chapter or two then go to bed. Well, more than 100 pages and 3 hours later my eyes slamming shut force me to stop, but wow, wow, WOW! This story is engrossing and addictive and the character of Prudence had me hooked instantly. Absolutely LOVING this story!!

Normally, anything WWII is a no-go for me. It's just not an era that engages me, but I'll make an exception for Kate Quinn - a fantastic story teller and one of my favourite authors! - so The Diamond Eye definitely goes on my TBR!!

Calling other readers of this series who've read this book: I am gutted by what's happened. Will I still be broken-hearted at the end??!! I adore this series, but if this is where we leave things, I'm not sure I can bear to continue . . . which would break my heart into even smaller pieces. Is the light ahead, or just an oncoming train???

I rarely post about books until I'm finished, but I am loving this book SO SO MUCH I couldn't wait for my final review. The writing is so good, and the humour - especially in the character of Sam [and his hilarious family!] - is just such a fun component. I have laughed out loud multiple times since I started this book.

That said, there's also plenty of suspense & drama. REALLY enjoying this!
