I completely understand the James Baldwin hype. Don’t get me wrong if Beale Street Could Talk was a great book but the religious imagery and descriptions in this book are so powerfully moving. The characterisation of John and the way his thoughts and feelings are so artfully expressed really allows you to understand him so much better. (Finished part one and two more to go!)

haven’t done an audiobook in a while- will hopefully finish on my run tomorrow!

i love how accurate somalis are written in this and i love the writing style- very free indirect discourse ish in the way that it flows and doesn’t follow a linear time frame (sayon remembering the stabbing and then skipping forward to secondary, but then back to him and cubas chat)
