Finished The Little Mermaid. Had to tweak the ending for the 4 YOs. As I suspected, they aren't ready for this. If you are a parent to a child under 5, when experts say fairy tales and mythology don't go down well/are not a great idea of little ones, believe them. I introduced them quite late and I still don't think they enjoy it so much.

The Princess and the Pea
The Emperor's New Clothes ( this one was much loved!! Brought out a lot for giggles! )
Thumbelina
The Ugly Duckling. ( One of my favourites! )

It gets a bit slow/dull occasionally, but so far I am enjoying reading this one. I am starting to wonder if it is because I too feel exhausted and overwhelmed like some of the characters of this story? :) In any case, I find it engaging enough to hang on. :)

Tonight's read was The Sleeping Prince, based on an old Spanish Tale about The Prince Sleeping in His Bed. I loved that this princess was so passionate about story-telling. It is an unusual skill/trait not valued so much in fairy tales as a skill worthy of appreciation. I really liked the fact that the Princess truly enjoyed story telling as a passion, and not just as means to some particular end. :)

Although I like the Hans Christian Andersen versions of these more, I am still fascinated by these. Finished four so far, Snow White and Rose Red -- Little Red Riding Hood -- Rapunzel -- Sleeping Beauty. Shall keep at these. :)

Read story 1/8 - The Daring Princess, which is based on the story The Iron Stove, retold by the Brothers Grimm. I am hoping to read up on these Forgotten Fairy Tales individually before moving on to the next one, so this one might turn out to be a slow read. :)

I also learnt that a myth doesn't mean a lie, it means a traditional story that tell you something about people and their world view and what they hold sacred.

I'd never been religious, but he told us that religion is important whether or not we believed in one, in the same way that the historical events are important whether or not you personally lived through them.

Halfway through this and somehow I seem to enjoy this better than its prequel, The Tattooist of Auschwitz. A much better story than the previous one, especially in the sense that it is far less predictable and therefore interesting so far. Let's see how it goes.

The writing is so earnest and easy to flow with! No offense meant to her talents, she is one smart lady, but this got me wondering if she has used a ghost writer. In any case, the book is the sort that the reader can breeze through and yet find wonderful snippets that are bith honest and relatable.
