My gosh this book starts off good. Appears to have a Seven Samurai theme.

Pretty excited to dip into this again. Last time I read it was the 20th century. I just finished the House Trilogy by his son Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson. Utter trash. Leave it at that. I’ll be able to cleanse my palate of that tripe by settling in for a multi-month reading of the original six books. I’ve only read Dune and I’ve heard that the other books get pretty weird so I can’t wait to find out

The House trilogy are the best things than Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson have written. They are trash compared to what Frank Herbert wrote. Much of the trilogy tries to retcon the original books. And that should be a crime. I did enjoy much of the intrigue and now have a better understanding of the overall Duniverse but again much of that was retconned too. I would give these a read. But beware

You can tell this book was written in the Reagan era. Not only does it focused on women’s appearances and how they should be judged by this. This book also just took a hard right turn into homophobia. Does a great job of showing the darker side of the early 80s unintentionally

This book is fantastic. Classic early-mid 80s spy thriller. The characters are distinct enough for me to follow who’s who. It’s almost all CIA spooks and Soviet military personnel and KBG officers. Only thing I don’t like is how women’s attractiveness seems to be the most important thing about them. i know this was written in Reagan's era and the audience was males of that time but it's a bit over the top

This book is amazing. I want to read all of Margret Atwood’s books. Her command of language is powerful and beautiful. I think most readers have an idea of what this book is about having heard of the show. This cuts away much of the shock and outrage and allows you to experience the story in a more intimate way through June’s (I’m not sure they named her here) narrative. Read this book.

Second book to the end and it’s wrapping up the Death Gate series. While the first four established the universe the story takes place in it’s the last three that bring it all together. This book has picked up the pace and it’s getting exciting. A welcome change from from Hand of Chaos

Another book I read 30 plus years ago and chose to revisit. Also I’m currently reading the Dark Tower series and the kingdom Delain and Randall Flagg are in that universe. I’ve love the YA style and narrative style. Makes it an easy quick read (my last book was Stephen King’s The Stand so this book is like a lite snack).

The first three books in this series might be my favorite books now. However, this book, which recounts a pivotal time in Roland’s past, might be the most boring. After 400+ pages of this I just hope they back to the main story soon.

Just starting this. Loved the first two books. One big gripe, the author has WAY overestimated the capabilities of the Soviet Army. As I write this we have seen the modern Russian army bungle its way into repeated defeats against Ukraine. Knowing how inept it is makes it hard to imagine that it’s predecessor would have been this amazing fighting force. That said, I still love these books.

Throughly enjoying this book. Combst is realistic without an over abundance of jargon. Characters have enough depth to be distinct. Can’t wait to finish and read the next one

This is a good book. Being a Cold War kid I love stories set during the 80s featuring the Soviets as the bad guys. I’ve tried to read several different series but always just thought they weren’t that great. I always want want the story to be as good as Red Storm Rising, but nothing can be that GOAT However, this is the first book in this genre that I picked up and just kept reading. Check it out

This book is great. A bit of a slow start but I feel like I know a few of the characters pretty well already. Also love the setting, the secret corporate facility. A common one in the Alien universe but that’s why we’re here. Of the recent books this is better the Alien: Prototype, at least as good Alien: Colony War, but not yet as good as Alien: Cold Forge. We’ll see if my opinion changes as I read more
