Two chapters in, and I already know this is going to be a four-star book…possibly five star.

I love the way Ms. Kingsolver writes…I imagine I’d enjoy reading her grocery list…in fact, after this book, I’m sure I would.

But…two onions a week? For a family of four? I tremble to think how big my family’s self-sufficient onion patch would have to be…and let’s not even think about the garlic.

I loved this book as a youngster, and just finished reading it aloud to my son. Definitely one of those stories that holds up well to the passage of time.

I think it was CS Lewis who said that good children’s books are enjoyed equally by adults. In fact, I enjoyed this one more the second time around…

Great book! Real, endearing characters, simple but moving story. Also, it was refreshing to read a YA novel where the main character’s parents are lovely, normal people—not perfect, of course, but not the awful, messed-up people that often seem to fill that role, for some reason.
