Two gripes already.

How did all the misplaced commas not get caught before this book was released by a major publishing house?

In the second chapter the main character, a DI at a near North provincial police detachment, tells an officer to contact PARKS & REC about shooting a cougar. What the heck? Any Ontarian knows the Ministry of Natural Resources is who you call about wildlife, ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTH.

"my eyes deviate around the room..." Omg, is this author for real?

Dead bodies, secrets about her deceased mother, and all the main character can think about is sex - how bored she is with her current partner and how much she wants to f*** the cop investigating those secrets of her mother's. It's bizarre, off-putting, and keeps yanking me out of the story.

Awful. Good heavens this was awful.

I think this is really going to suck.

Science fiction written for adults that reads like YA. Haven't decided if that's a good thing.

After reading the brilliant Last Policeman series by this author, I am very disappointed in this. He obviously had a "good writer" upgrade between this and that.

i've never read a book structured like this (there is no way in hell I could read Canterbury Tales - as clever as I think I am, my eyes slide right off Old English). it's utterly fascinating and compelling.

multiple first-person zombie fight scenes do not an interesting novel make.

man, this is a slog. I want to like it much more than I actually like it.

Nope. For a self-professed geek who loved all this stuff the first time around, Cline's rabid frenzyof references just screams of desperate "me-too!"-ness, the pathos of the outsider desperate to be seen as cool. Nope.

As soon as this reveals itself as the Ender's Game homage (rip-off) it most definitely is, I'm out.

I have never before read a fantasy novel written in second person singular present tense. The writing is evocative, but the narration keeps kicking me out, if that makes sense.

It's a rare book that reveals a revelation you have been expecting and yet still makes it shocking and upsetting and sad and frustrating.

Reading slowly because the writing is so good I don't want to miss even a word. This one is as good as Leviathan Wakes! Didn't think that was possible for book 5 of any series, even this one.

Really picks up after the 200p mark!

Slow going, but only because you MUST read every word and savour it in order to really experience this genius's books.

Prefer Sanderson's adult books. This is just too flat. I tried.

Spending most of my reading time imagining how much better this book would be if there was a chapter devoted to the gruesome death of Elene.

Not up to the standard I've come to expect from Sanderson, at least thus far.

oh, this is slow going...reading so much sf and fantasy makes reading a more "literary" style seem like so much work...

I WANT to like this book. The premise sounds wonderful. But when a book is written in first-person by SEVERAL different narrators, shouldn't those narrators have their own distinct voices instead of all sounding like the same person? Disappointing thus far.

Finally it's getting interesting.

The narrator Rachel is one of the most messed-up, confused, erratic, unreliable narrators I have ever read. It's wonderful.

I want to love it. I really want to.
