a surprisingly interesting read! exciting to see how the early themes will continue to progress

Really loving the start of this - Woolf’s beautiful writing in a more traditional format so as to follow a more traditional plot stylization. Looking forward to seeing where the plot moves!

First Woolf novel - took some time to get used to her style but I’m really enjoying her narrative and approach to presenting characters and their inner monologues.

“her old thoughts were going to come in handy now, but new words would have to be made and said to fit them.”

“Janine’s fist dream was dead, so she became a woman.”

Read this book in high school but never finished it because I got too busy. Now that I’m re-reading it nearly five years later, I’m seeing SO many themes my younger self completely overlooked and missed. I feel like now I can understand and appreciate the more mature themes, while also fully digesting the beautiful writing.

what a captivating inciting force. really loving the consistent greek parallels

so SO good!! the characters are all so interesting and the overarching theme of aesthetics and beauty and how humanity becomes engrossed is incredibly engaging. so excited to see where the themes take the story.
