I regret that I read ~75% of this book more than a year ago and took such a long break from it, I’ve forgotten a lot of specifics for my review. A lot of this book feels laudatory, and like Isaacson had his own reasons for writing it beyond a “biography.” In sharp contrast to his bio of Steve Jobs, who he ostensibly passionately hated.

The author of the foreword says that this book “teaches you how to read it” and it finally clicked for me. Incredible crescendo at the halfway point. Also very strange to me that this book and Crime and Punishment both have the exact same ignominious rich blond guy who very specifically got in legal trouble for cheating at cards and is trying to marry the main character’s sister by bribing her family.

Ngl I barely understand this book at all. It is only 3 chapters. The first chapter was simple, easy to follow. The second chapter is like one extremely long stream of consciousness poem. Sentences and characters blend into each other. I keep reading hoping the meaning will become apparent and I’m currently neck deep in nonsense.
