Sometime after the 50% mark, I notice that the documentation is stronger, with multiple sources per footnote and better integrated facts. I'm glad, because I'm having fun reading it.

No prurient or off kilter sexual stuff this time around, thank goodness. Interesting premise.

"The Briars" has shown up in 4 novels I've read, all by different authors, in the past 18 months. Please, please, nobody else use this. Find some other name!

The betrayal blew me away. Regarding the troll and the cave, etc., I have to say that it seems mighty derivative. Even with the modern elements added, it still feels like Tolkien. That said, it certainly held my attention anyway.

Unusual to see characters so well developed in a horror novel. One of his finest, at least so far.
