The narration for the audiobook of this story really did the author dirty. Talking fast with an exaggerated southern accent doesn’t equal an Appalachian accent. So much of the story is lost because the narrator doesn’t pause at all so the dialogue holds no weight. I think I would be liking this book more if I were reading the paperback rather than listening to the audiobook.

The main character is so unlikable how do you write basically a burn book about your best friend’s fiancé and expect her to be happy about reading it?

I did not enjoy this as much as I wanted to. I really loved the story concept, and there were parts of it that were pretty good, but I hated being in the main character’s head. The FMC was not likeable and the love interest was about as interesting as plain toast.

Why is the FMC so unlikable? Why can’t she just have one conversation without walking away? It’s a very annoying part of a fairly good story.

I understand what the author is trying to do here with the noir style storytelling, it’s creative and I could see it going somewhere cool. But the story construction and character development is bad.

None of the interactions make any sense. They just happen so quickly. The first book felt a little more developed on the character front.
