I’m struggling with this one. It’s removed from the trilogy, and I’m not sure I care for the changes in its depiction.

I’m not particularly enamoured with it as well as the original trilogy. With little to no Matthew, so far, the love story of the trilogy is missing. I’m also struggling to connect it and the characters presented to who they left off as in TBOL, almost as if they’re disconnected and not who they were established as. We’ll see.
I already expect to leave this out of future re-reads.

It’s been a minute since I read the previous books, and I’m not crazy about present-tense writing, but it is a continuously enjoyable series.

Nope. Not having it. I’m done.

And still, I persist.

I’m giving this series one last chance, mostly because I do enjoy the characters, even if the writing lacked in the first.

For about a hundred pages there, I was semi-enjoying it. Then the writing got weak and forced again. I enjoy the characters enough to get through this, and it’s an easy read, but I kind of wish I’d stuck to my guns and not bothered reading this. Now I’m stuck needing to finish it.

It took well over 200 pages to setup and get to anything enjoyable.

Either there’s more momentum to the beginning of this book than the previous two, or I’m enjoying the build up to this story the most since the first book. Perhaps it is that many of the main characters are actually near each other in the beginning for the first time since book one.

Not that I’m unhappy with it, but Rand and Egwene’s change in feelings towards each other felt very quick. Or, not as well patched in as it could’ve.

I was never an iCarly fan, but I have seen McCurdy in a few things. Reading this, and having listened to her speak in a few interviews, just harrowing and heartbreaking. I hope she’s in a better place mentally.
