The idea of the three distinct madams is… interesting. Not enjoying the slurs (or the assault) at all. Believe this is about the range of morals but still feeling icky about suspending reality reading it. And also honestly struggling to not take it as a reflection of the author’s beliefs.

So none of you hoes wanted to tell me that Steinbeck wrote pining well? Or that he understood the different experiences between european and poc american settlers? Or that his critiques went deeper than ‘profits, shmofits’ and he encouraged dilly dallying 🤨
