Hannah Howard is starting Healing Justice Lineages: Dreaming at the Crossroads of Liberation, Collective Care, and Safety
I was deeply moved by this book and inspired by Cara and Erica’s dedication to sharing the history of healing justice. Their ability to weave past movements, such as the Black Panther’s breakfast program that fed children healthy meals, with clear directions for how to care for our communities in todays world made every historical story applicable and relevant to me.

Hannah Howard is on page 242 of 336 of How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America
Easy to read, hard to digest. Smith describes his visits to plantations and the harsh realities of slavery. He centers the lives of slaves, their hopes, dreams and humanity, while explicitly outlining the systems that caused such horrible pain. How we learn about these stories matters, as does who is telling it.
