A lot of the events in this book feel like a barely disguised fetish from the author, like how does your mind even come up with these scenarios. Why is a 13yo girl peeing on a 13yo boy. Why is the poor beggar girl with LEPROSY being solely described by the size of her (pre-pubescent!!) breasts. Every second I’m reminded that this book has been written by a man.

The story of Fata had 0 purpose other than to serve as an erotic male fantasy—I think Andric talked about her breasts more than her feelings or thought processes. It made me laugh honestly, “the girl’s breasts tightened in a brief spasm” ???
