This is the single best book on African history I've read so far.

Just finished a chapter on assimilation and now moving into one on gender.

Still in the WEB du Bois era, in which Black boxing great Jack Johnson has just defeated the racist-ass Great White Hope, whose long forgotten name I can't even bother to turn the page to look up, and racist whites are losing their shit.

Up to Booker T. Washington now.
