My teen daughter would find this creepy but I’m pretty sure my 3rd grade son would like it. I like the mystery element.

This series is so well written. By the third book, the mild fantasy elements increase but not enough to scare away non-fantasy readers. The characters and story themes grow in complexity and value as the series builds.

This is more violent (including teen suicide) than I was expecting. It’s interesting enough for me to keep reading, but I’m not putting it on the reading list for my 13 year old daughter.

I started reading this to learn more about Korean culture and history. As a Korean adoptee returning to Korea this year for the first time, I want to have a better grasp on culture and timeline before visiting historical landmarks. If it wasn’t for this, I’m not sure I would have continued with this book. Feel free to ask me why.

I’m disappointed that none of the reviews I read about this book mentioned that the main character deals with her adoption as a main plot in the book. The writer has not declared being adopted herself, so reading the main characters account seems reductive to me.

Started reading because so may people are obsessed with it. It’s a little too extreme to me. Praising perfectionism and people pleasing without seeing the negative side of control and adapting to please others.

I guess I’m committed now because I just ordered the other 5 books in the series.

I like sad books and I cannot lie.

The first book was slow reading for me until the last 1/4. However it’s been smooth reading for the second thus far.

The fear for a sequel is that it will alter my perception of the story & characters from the first book. I appreciated that the first book was less a love story and more about how Hannah becomes a mother to Bailey. So I was a little wary that the second book would be too focused on Hannah & Owen’s relationship, but I am proud to report that the mother-daughter bond is still in the forefront thus far.

Great writing and the characters are interesting and complex.

My 9 year old son loves this series so far! The second book has kept his attention just as well as the first.

My daughter loved this book so I decided to read it. It’s very well written. This is my second Joan Bauer read and I appreciate how she deals with complex life events in an emotionally intelligent and child friendly way. So far it reminds me of Because of Winn Dixie and Stargirl, a pleasant combo.

It took a bit but I’m feeling it now. A bit of Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz and X-Men.

I don’t know what to think of this one yet.

Honestly considering not finishing or just scanning my way to the end.

My reward for making it past the 1/4 point is a beautiful history of Bernadette’s brief but masterful architecture career. Beautifully poignant.
