I’ve restarted this on audio/physical so this will get read early 2026

I actually have no fuckinh clue what to rate this as it’s genuinely insane and put me in a fight or flight situation for most of the book
I think Sayaka is one of the most talented writers out there but MY GODDDDDD SHE IS A FREAK (said with love and respect) and now I can feel the fibres of my skin so idk how to rate it

I have the biggest bone to pick with dude bro from the 3rd essay that believes anything made after the 80s is shit and XYZ genre wouldn’t exist without ABC 80s movie.
To also say that fantasy RPGs only exist of the film Legend (1995 btw) and Krull (which was described as derivative) is a joke. In the same paragraph also said that Tolkien’s influence was there but nah we owe more to these films. TOUCH GRASS

GIVE ME HOT EVIL VAMPIRE WOMAN ANY DAY

A great anthology although this predominantly focuses on physically disabilities, which is a bit of shame considering how inclusive it is in the voices that are included, felt like it was a bit remiss of this collection to barely touch on things like neurodivergence.
There were essays in this that were truly excellent and ones I will go back to/ explore that body of work of that writer.

I overall did not enjoy this. Writing was too embellished to the point to where it didn’t make sense; sometimes I couldn’t tell who was speaking or what they were even speaking about.
I had no real sense of anyone’s motivations. I like maybe a couple of characters, but honestly this was a chore to finish and truly don’t believe it needed to be almost 500 pages. Probs a 2.5 ⭐️

This book doesn’t need to be just shy of 500 pages

Thoughts so far:
1. Love how they all call Lizzie cringe for walking 3 miles to check on her sick sister, pop off queens

2. I know the whole deal with Mr Darcy but man he really isn’t likeable rn is he

3. Also everyone saying Mary (I think) is basically allowed to be not as pretty as the other sisters bc she reads

I love purple prose and really flowery language, however there is a balancing act to this and unfortunately I don’t think the author always gets it right. Sometimes I’m reading paragraphs that come across non-sensical. It also feels we’re being put at arm’s length.
Maybe we’re meant to feel as lost as the characters do- not sure.

Borrowed e-book from the library. Currently reading in the airport. At first couldn’t tell if the opinions being shared by MMC were his or that of the author (feel it is MMC now). Coupled this with being in the presence of the most entitled old bag giving out that she doesn’t believe Kate Middleton may cancer/ an illness and long nails were unladylike, I am having an experience to say the least.

Child in this called Jin Kazama and all I can think of now is baby Tekken characters
