Reading for my course on modern Russian history- this is a book I will not be returning to the campus bookstore once the course is over! Very well written and very compelling. The course had us start on Chapter 29 but once complete I'll be going through the first half of the book.

Aaron Phillips is on page 225 of 400 of The First World War
Reading for my course on WW1 and so far, not my favorite WW1 book. Overly verbose in many areas, and the way the author describes military formations and maneuvering can get very confusing. So far, I prefer Martin Gilbert's book.

Dense. The names and places are real hard to keep up with unsurprisingly. Have to take notes.

So far a play-by-play of events from 1913-14 Balkan strife to the Xmas Truce 1914. Not much analysis- just a presentation of facts, dates, locations and lots of excerpts from letters and journals. I wish there was a bit more on the Eastern Front; heavily focused on the Western Front. Dense read so far, written in PBP manner but still leaves me feeling "weird" after the descriptions from front line soldiers.
