Aurora is so dumb. omg.

Wow, Aurora is dumb. Willingly tempting fate, sneaking out with the Blackwaters, then planning to do exactly what Rafe told her not to do immediately after he had to save her butt again...

Holy cow, this book is practically ALL telling. Has the author never heard of "show, don't tell"? I'll keep going with it for now, but this may end up a DNF. Starting so incredibly slowly!

39% in and getting introduced to MORE characters. I've already got a list of the 26 main people just so I can keep track of who's who, and now we're getting MORE dropped on us? I gotta take a break.

This bit with the princesses is reminiscent of the girls in the Shining.

You're seriously going to expect me to believe that a 17 year old girl in college doesn't know what the word "whore" means? The whole innocence thing can only go so far if you want readers to believe she's 17 and not 12, I'm sorry.
And, so far, despite semester 2 being the one where they work on magic, I am 55% in and NOTHING has happened except Brienne feeling sorry for herself and doubting her relationships.

Hmm. Interesting I suppose. Slow start, some pretty stereotypical high school characters, a rather Mary Sue-ish heroine. Throw in shallow relationships, not much character development, some insta-love and we have a tolerable book that I will attempt to finish due to the large amount of 5 star ratings. Surely somewhere it must get better?

Hmmm. I see the potential, but it is buried under a lot of telling, a lot of whining from Gwen, and an awful lot of fawning and failing given that this is an end-of-the-world situation. Gwen is sometimes just dumb. You're telling me they've known about this Qualify-or-die thing for several months and she not once went out running to prepare? And that your crush is more important than NOT DYING? Ergh...

So far, so bleh. I'm just not as drawn in as I thought I'd be. Everyone seems so flat and 2 dimensional.

This "Candidacy" keeps getting mentioned, but there has been no explanation of what it is yet....annoying.
