I got to the end and was like what just happened because it was still like 2010 or whatever, but apparently it’s just the first volume?? I mean lol. Like everything, Michelle’s was better.

I haven’t finished and it’s still January but I am ready to call it: this is my fav book of the year. There’s a very important way in which it reminds me of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ “The Water Dancer”, my fav book of 2019: the BRILLIANT skill and thoughtfulness of both authors’ non-fiction craft shines through so brightly, the storytelling is powerful enough to burn.

This is the most boring and obnoxious bit of white feminist fan fiction since “The Testaments”. I am so annoyed that I got it because I accidentally thought it was “The Year of the Witching” which is AMAZING.

Not sorry for being the grinch who stole witchmas but “If the modern woman wants any measure of power she must find it in the ballot box”? The desperately trite names of the three sisters? Burn me.

I’m not sorry for not being sorry but this is peak 2019 Social Justice Semi-Fiction: a post-apocalyptic parable about white ladies going through things that actually happened to BIPOC women in actual real history. Maybe there’s an afterward acknowledging all that which I haven’t gotten to yet?

omg. Omg omg. I’ve had this on my TBR list since the 2014 POC thing and everyone important raves about it ..... it was basically just-sorta-ok til about 5 pages ago — daaaaaaamn. Just wow. It can’t go completely downhill from here and might still be one of the greatest books I’ll ever read.

Got my tiny little hands on an advanced review copy yesterday and my plans for an early night disappeared. I took myself out for dinner at my favourite French place and tucked into this new adventure with my new fave Private Eye along with my steak frites and a glass of Grenache. Absolutely brilliant and completely love it so far!!!!
