I keep saying I’m done with Elin. But then I pick up another. I’m really getting tired of the trend quoting and name dropping that goes on in her books. She doesn’t really care about being “evergreen”, because I don’t think names of bakeries, restaurants, celebrities, clothing and home decor brands and social media pages are going to age very well.

I am struggling with this book! I really like the plot and the characters. It’s Elin’s insertion of Instagram and Facebook memes, trends, pop culture name drops etc. I think it really makes the book disposable. This won’t be relevant in 5-10 years. I get it needs to be a representation of life in 2022, but I feel she’s just trying too hard to be “with it.”

I don’t think I can read a romance book about a character who happens to be a romance novelist! Chapter 2 we get a glimpse of the novel and it’s supposedly “on the right track” because she’s introduced the characters, setting and created tension. Exactly like the book just did in Chapter 1. Too meta for me and I’m tired of reading books about authors… I’ll give it a try later!

I wanted a lighter romance, but UGH. It's another story of a stubborn man with control issues, who has a blue collar job and repressed emotions - not to mention a devotion to family and/or dogs. I think I've read this before... So far I'm on break-up #2 (SPOILER ALERT) and I wonder how it's gonna work out... ;)

DNF. I can not get into this book. Some quotation marks may help, but it’s just so pretentious and insipid so far.

This book just sucks the life out of me been though I want to finish, I have to take a break.

I believe this will be a DNF for me. Not in the mood for it and I'm having a difficult time relating to the characters. Maybe later in the year I'll try again.

This may be a do not finish for me... I’m having a hard time getting into this. The lack of connection to characters is what is dragging me down. The concept is ok. I’m just not relating to 15 year old girls at a boarding school on an island off Maine.

I think I'm stopping here. It's just not doing it for me.

Ugh I don't like this one very much, everyone is extremely irritating and entitled. I'm looking for ONE good person, and it's sparse.

Finished book 1! Only 6% done with the series.

Starting over with all the Harry Potter books today, #backtohogwarts on the 20th anniversary! Starting Chapter 5, Diagon Alley.

Ugh... I don’t think I can keep reading about horrible things happening to a young girl. I wasn’t a surprise, the first chapter led you there and later you could see it coming. I could have jumped ship before it happened. I want redemption and revenge, so I may finish it. Makes me ill thought.

Only halfway through and I’m crying. This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the book.
