I feel like Rodia’s smiling/laughing is from duper’s delight/ intellectual superiority- (but i also feel like there’s something else there) I have no idea where his self destructive generosity comes from since it feels so senseless compared to his exactitude in all other actions... meaning-> Good is instinctual, evil is calculated??

I’m deeply interested in the illness aspect of this- his fainting, his distrust of his own senses, and his back and forth reasoning. I had a difficult time picking this book up again due to the visceral horror of certain scenes. The drunk ruining his family was emotionally and morally painful- THE HORSE DREAM- I feel as though I’m in too deep now to stop
