I needed a book to calm me and help me feel grounded during this season. It has a very appropriate look at gift giving which was pleasantly unexpected.

I feel like this book is not drawing me in like the other two did. We are being introduced to several characters yet not given a chance to connect on a deeper level with them.

Finding this book really fun and interesting. There is great character development. Also, quite unique in the types of aliens that we find here!

This is becoming more interesting now. Getting an idea of the culture behind the people. Beginning to understand the poverty and hunger. I like the way the magic is blended in.

Really enjoying this! Love the strong female character.

This book has been really great. The story shows us how a lie develops. There was a good analogy of comparing it to a fire. You have to carefully nurture it at first but then it can go out of control and take on a life of its own. I am thinking it would be great to read more of this author's work.

This book is turning out to be prophetic. See quote below:
"But suppose you had the power to change things? You still might not be able to fix anything, because every time you solve a problem you’d cause another problem. And maybe all these plagues and droughts are nature’s way of striking a balance? We humans don’t have any natural predators left, so nature has to find other ways to handle us.”

Just happened to see this at church. It has been very interesting reading. Stories about personalities and life on a small island. Kind of reminds me of some British comedies. There was a part I just skipped because I thought it was going to be scary.

I am enjoying this. Its quirky! I like the dialogue between the mother and daughter.

I am having trouble retaining interest. Perhaps I need a different kind of book now. I am not caring about the characters much. Perhaps I need some more realistic ones

I might not be able to finish this. I understand that with the genre of "literary fantasy" it is expected to be wordy. However, it is just not holding my interest.

Chapter 3 is confusing. I can't see how it fits in with the rest of the story yet.

I started looking at this book because of a Goddreads recommendation. I was looking for good literary fiction. The last literary fiction I read was Version Control by Dexter Palmer. So far, I am enjoying this. It is very imaginative.

I'm finding I like this better now that the romance part has started.

The beginning was slow going. I need some time to get interested in this. I'll give it a chance.

My husband and I had fun looking at the collages at the back. Some of the poetry is really good. Others nonsensical.

I am learning a lot about what it was like in Japan for Koreans. It is hard for me to stick with this book. It is not tremendously exciting. It is a series of short stories about the student's relationships with different people

That last part was hard to get through. Had to skip around a lot.

Chapters 14 and 15 were sad. In chapter 16 there seems to be some hope again. It brings out things we don't want to think about. Gets more scary here.

On chapter 14. I was worried that this book would be to scary or violent for me. It is not so far! Its more like a B 1950's horror film. There were a few spots where I laughed.

Good reading by David P. Dobrev. Started this audio book because a friend of mine said it was good. She warned me that I might not like the violence. She is right that there are some very bloody parts. Some of the stories do have good morals to them.

Decided not to finish this book because it did not hold my interest

I feel at this point it is about building the characters. Not much sci do in it. It is great as an audio book.

So far, nothing especially rivetting.

I thought I might be bored with this book but I'm not.
