strongest chapters by far: honesty (3), romance (10), both genuinely insightful in their challenge. Dunno about the rest. jury’s out on the rest.

10% of this is rly valuable and 90% of it is yale professor bell going I think we just wouldn’t have any more social problems ever if we just loved one another :)

I appreciate that hooks knows how to pick a good ass quote

White boy literary stadium tour continues full steam ahead

You know what, this shit is pretty damn good

I only planned to read for like an hour this afternoon and I cannot put this down

This might just well be a perfect book. I would not be surprised if I finished this and said This is a perfect book

Almost as compulsive as the first and readable after a glass of bordeaux I am happy to report. Control is a big dumb baby (complimentary).

breaking my one book at a time rule and beginning this wineglass in hand because my AC broke and I need to read something fun and silly while I sit here and sweat

Least surprising take of 2026: this is absolutely gorgeous and really tightly told

Just let this weird lady write about dams!!!

I’m about to be a heavenly terror about this. Fore, block me now, etc

This shit is phenomenal

She’s so smart I’m going to punch a hole in the wall

God I was a dumbass when i was 20 years old.

Today’s lesson in humility: I was supposed to read this ten years ago in college and couldn’t because the simmering paranoia Joan describes in the first few pages annoyed me so much (I was callous and self-flagellatingly idealistic). Unfortunately I now understand it quite well

She is steadily getting more naive and more focused on one typological experience of this illness as the book goes on even as she continually pays lip service to how diverse EDs are. And I am getting tireddddddd

I don’t know. I keep reading it. And me in particular not DNFing a book of essays on eating disorders suggests at least some narrow modicum of merit even though she is getting a little manic pixie with it at times.

Clarice Lispector, boldly and lyrically asking the question many a beautiful bisexual woman has asked before her and many will ask after: what if God was your toxic boyfriend

I am just sitting here wondering. How is she going to keep this shit up for another half a book.

Oh boy. Bitch this is intense

Back to my brazilian psychodrama and I would like to announce that I was right to take my eviscerating Kafka detour thank you very much. Now I grant it doesnt take a genius to note the cockroach tell but still. It would appear Clarice Lispector was as moved by the metamorphosis as I was. Cannot blame her and I still got it

Ok wtf I am crying in my cubicle. Wtf

Damn it I should have known. I should have known this would be so so sad

fine. Ugh

Do I need to reread the metamorphosis before i do this or are we in less intolerably literary territory than that

Enrolled myself today at the edith wharton school of comparing the countenances of the rich unfavorably to roast mutton

We are truly pulling zero punches here lol

Now that I think about it “Delusional Wife Guy” is a logical addition to the kurt vonnegut protagonist all star team

Is this…….the most actually pessimistic Vonnegut I’ve read? I think this might be the most actually pessimistic Vonnegut I’ve read. Jeez
