The continued unironic use of "mind palace" is really tempting to make me DNF...

Putting this read on pause right now. It's too bleak for me right now.

I've never experienced the horrors of ED but I did go an entire month only "eating" Soylent and an internship only consuming pizza and smoothies. Making food when you have a million other things to do can seem like a gargantuan task and so far this book is 100% meeting me where I am and hopefully saving my wallet from door dash

Idk if I have it in me to read a post cataclysm book where humanity learned from its mistakes and everyone is nice

I couldn't figure out why I wasn't liking this and then realized that audiobook format really hurts this read. I will return when Libby allows me to actually read it

"wow this book is weirdly similar to earthsea - oh that's the point, okay" -me

I'm not sure if I want to read "earthsea but mc is a lady" it's good but it doesn't feel like it really adds anything as a critique or parody. Because it was written in the 80s none of the ideas are new to me and characterizations that were once progressive are now borderline offensive.

At what point does satire of sexist tropes just become sexism?

I'm having such a difficult time with this. I really want to like this book but there is so much victim blaming and shaming based sexism that it's become rather hard to want to continue to pick it up. Which is a shame because I enjoy the other aspects of it and I very much want to like Jane Marple novels for my own selfish and capitalist reasons.

Really shocked by the quality of this book, I guess I shouldn't be surprised because of who the author is but I wrongly assumed a lot of this information would be redundant for someone who spends a lot of their professional career working with equity groups.

So far it's great for all parents at every stage regardless of racial background or knowledge level on these issues.

Everyday I read several chapters of this book and end my session sobbing uncontrollably. Everyday I return because the writing is that good.

I really need to stop reading books blind. I didn't know this what a great Gatsby "what if" and I've never read, watched or consumed any great Gatsby content.

I got a bit farther but am ultimately adding it to my DNF list. It's a good book it's just not for me. The author is very upfront about her faults which can be jarring to read (the book opens with some poor behavior on her end). Although these are personal essays there were some minor fact checking issues that also bugged me. It's a series of very personal essays and not general commentary which was what I expected.

Currently on hiatus from finishing this book. I didn't realize the author was going through a major writer's block and has no clear intentions of finishing the series. It's well written but I don't want to be left on an eternal cliff hanger so I will wait to see if the third book ever comes into fruition.

I'm debating on not finishing this. I have a really hard time reading about people blaming therapists for having boundaries or making others (her partner and therapist) responsible for their personal mental illnesses. I'm going to continue for a few more chapters but if there is no growth or change in narrative I will probably add this to my DNF pile. So far though it's very well written.

Why did I put this in my TBR? This book is so far removed from my traditional tastes but I got it because it was in my TBR so I'm inclined to at least get through half of it.
