Did not finish.

Started with the Neutronium Alchemist and I just don't think I can do it right now. This book however, has already paid off handsomely and I've only just finished what equates to the prologue. Can't wait to keep reading.

On a more somber note, I read 7 books in 2013. That's bullshit, I vow to read at least twenty next year.

I'll say this - this book is making me think. And that is a beautiful quality for a book to have. I am constantly forming opinions on the actions of the characters in the book, rejoicing when they act as I would, shaking my mental finger at them when I disagree. It is engrossing. Also, Greg Bear has a knack for weaving in technical and scientific detail in a convincing way that is only bested by Alastair Reynolds.

So far this book is phenomenal. I know basically how it ends already but I'm still enjoying it. Already looking forward immensely to "Anvil of Stars."

Stoked for this book. It sucks that this guy is dead.

Going to review the whole Revelation Space trilogy once I'm finished with this one.

Been letting this one languish for quite a while. I have to confess I haven't been getting into this one like I did with previous books from him. But I'm starting to see flashes of the writer I'm used to. Maybe the next two thirds will clean my pre-verbial clock. I hope so.

My favorite quote thus far in the book, the immotile Dudley bose. I'm paraphrasing here: "I have been re-lifed? And I'm dating a smoking hot reporter? I would very much like to meet me." Humor is the greatest tool in a writers belt. I love laughing.

Why in the hell am I reading chapter after chapter of a police procedural when the real Dudley Bose is a motile, there is a fleet of starships being constructed, and Ozzie and Orion are falling off an alien planet. Peter, if I wanted to read about cops I would read a book about cops!

Well, I am preparing for my review but I kinda already know what it's going to be, an almost awesome book. There's nothing wrong with any of it. I like descriptions the world, I like lots of tech, space battles - go! Murder mysteries, check. You want a large cast of charachters? I do. There's just about 200 pages too much, if I'm honest, the landscape descriptions are what's killing me. I don't mind love and fucking.

Guillermo, you probably disagree. But I just read through a major assault on the second chance spacecraft and I haven't run out of steam yet. don't hate me because I like Hamilton!

The more I read of this book the more it seems like a vast collection of short stories that spans over a grand narrative. It makes me feel a little better about some passages of my writing that may not be essential to the plot of the book but provide some extra seasoning. That being said, I don't plan on writing nearly a thousand pages.
