Kundera is truly a master, and I couldn’t even begin to describe the artistry that is this book. He creates characters and the situations they find themselves in with a sociological scalpel so fine that when he’s done with his exploration we don’t feel the surgery, but we do feel like some great sickness that was hiding inside our hearts has been excised and replaced with a levity and optimism.
