Mo P is on page 5 of 198 of Everything Is Tuberculosis: The History and Persistence of Our Deadliest Infection
Just started this. What a line:

> We are powerful enough to light the world at night, to artificially refrigerate food, to leave Earth’s atmosphere and orbit it from outer space. But we cannot save those we love from suffering. This is the story of human history as I understand it—the story of an organism that can do so much, but cannot do what it most wants.

Kishore's anecdotes and life story are extraordinarily quotable, albeit somewhat perplexing at times.

Mo P is reading Almost Nowhere
Another first-rate first-contact story, very different than Tchaikovsky's, almost unclassifiable in fact

Mo P is 30% done with The Weil Conjectures: On Math and the Pursuit of the Unknown
I love the way Olsson writes -- she intertwines personal reminiscences and the life stories of both Weil siblings beautifully. Perhaps it helps that I relate personally to Olsson's story: she left math while I left physics, but for essentially the same reason.
