Annoyingly I have finished this book and his second is not yet available! Waaah! I am trying to cast the film....

Haunting.

Some extremely funny scenes, but also some very intense ones. As ever, the notes by translator Stephen Sartarelli are informative & helpful.

A harsh rating, but it's not really a badly written book, it's just not my type of book.

The book needs editing, typos (such as larger instead of lager), odd sentences & a few discrepancies, the most irritating of which was the eventual incorrect dates on the chapter headings.

It grew on me. The violence was a bit OTT for these days, but it was first published in 1987.

Seems a very long read. Some lovely passages, but.....

I was going to rate it 4*, but could not. I was totally out of sync with the main premise, so, for me, the book had to flounder.

Not for me! Also means I can discard the other two books I have by the same author.

A quick, charming read giving time to reflect on the lives of my own, now dead, cats.

I loved "I Capture the Castle". This book is just as unlikely a tale and just as wonderful.

Very Boys Own style. Not very convincing. I was interested to read of the author's Sherlockian career.

The wrong book to read after a CJ Sansom, so switched to another book.
