i have been recommended this book as an alternative to Memoirs of a Geisha (which I actually have read, but like a zillion years ago) as the author is an actual former community member writing about her own experiences rather than a white Western dude (cough cough Arthur Golden). ¡a ver qué tal!

The first 30-ish pages of this were such a sordid affair I had to skim some passages so I wouldn’t fully absorb what I was reading. The atmosphere of this book is also depressing and doesn’t match my reality of living in Barcelona in the summertime. Admittedly, I do like the writing style, and that’s why this hasn’t been a DNF yet
