Ich hab den Film als Kind gesehen, deswegen werde ich das nicht bewerten, glaube ich. War ein nettes, gutes Buch, aber in meinem Fall ist diese "erschütternde Wirkung" ausgeblieben. Wahrscheinlich, weil ich erst sehr spät mit diesen etwas sehr geschraubt redenden ProtagonistInnen warm geworden bin. Aber zum Schluss hatte ich sie dann doch ganz gern.

God, this book is a GAY FEVER DREAM or smth

This reads a bit like "Die Verwandlung" von Franz Kafka or reminds me of the depressed rant morbid google docs one of my friends sometimes send me... just written differently and about at first well off guy that finds himself spiraling down more and more the 1930s of Japan. All in all, okay to read. (The women characters are viewed from a sexist lense, well yeah, but it's a Japanese man writing this, in the 1940s...)
