Oooh wow. I’ve never been quite so disappointed in something Seth wrote. This is…. Really bad. And it didn’t need to be? Like idk why he chose to write it this way when the end result could have been achieved without all the…ickyness. This is so icky. It feels gross and bad and I don’t like it. Just ask. If you are friends?? Like Andy Mineo said “that’s not what friends do.” I’m disgusted. And sad.

Upgrade you also weren’t thrown in a tower 3 months after you started school so your xp can kick rocks.

You have GOT to be kidding me. They rush these freshman through the curriculum with so much hubbub about them not being prepared and once they are done have nothing else planned to further them along. What is the point of rushing them then?!

I have the feeling that Rob was supposed to come off as cool and mysterious. Which he accomplished right up until the moment he was revealed to be another selfish, greedy adult who really could care less about these teens other than what they offer him. Ah well, par for the course I guess.

It may be too soon but I kind of like Darren. I thought he was the jerk face dominator at first, but after I realized he’s just a potential recruit, and that his character seems truly incompatible with the bad guys, I find him rather… respectable. I like it.

Ummm…. Sal growing up in safety isn’t a short coming it’s the goal. Isn’t that why y’all are fighting? To win so more kids can grow up like Sal did?

…unless he’s got a hidden way to guard against domination then this was super, SUPER unwise.

Three words that make all my frustrations about this book make sense. The author isn’t clueless as I thought. We just have world views that are the antithesis of each other. That’s so good to know. Now I can finish this book at an emotional distance, without investing all my emotions, since I know all I will be is disappointed.

Okay. I amend my earlier statement. Quest is probably the only adult with some sense.

Again, Upgrade shows the adults care nothing about the health of the students, only how useful they are. “I’m not deleting it until you make something better.” Another manipulation because if they actually use it Faby and she goes insane like Brophee that’s on Sal but hey! She’ll level though so *shrug*

Again. He apologizes again to the person giving him trauma. I can’t decide if I’m more upset with the abuser, or the victim who keeps thanking people for hurting him??? Like??? What kind of message is that?

What is with this fixation on inequality? Everyone is different! Why is Sal measuring whether someone else’s suffering is worse than his? Who cares? Other people suffering doesn’t detract from the fact he SUFFERS TOO. It’s not measuring contest of who suffers more. And just because people suffer more doesn’t mean they are right or have the right to hurt others!!

The double standard. “You shouldn’t want to hurt those who hurt you” but you think stripping people down naked outside of their will in front of thousands doesn’t hurt? But that’s okay cause you were mad? I agree those guys should have been punished. Maybe even beat up. But the horror of Sal being controlled was just as much horror for them. Like… *sigh* the morals are lowwww.

“Your support class, if he knows his role well” I’m sorry yes, the roles you have yet to teach them? There’s no way they should know their roles well after two months. Practice their roles? Sure. Know them? What is wrong with these adults?! Also why the lies? I don’t get why they couldn’t just tell the truth about camping???? Like??? It makes no sense.

Okay sure Upgrade, since we are helping people overcome their feelings of inadequacy, and Sal is making you feel inadequate, I think it’s in your best interest to take on the next calamity solo. No ifs, ands, or buts, or you lose Sal as a mentee and friend. That’s good friendship right? Right?! Screw her. What is wrong with this authors worldview?

Omg… he’s an idiot. Sal is LEGIT an idiot. But like even an idiot can see this isn’t a good idea. This book is like the best idea and plot ever, filled in with the stupidest, vile, manipulative, straight up evil characters ever. I’m… I’m not sure how to feel about it anymore…

Why is Nero’s daughter an aspiring villain? I thought this was a hero academy? Wtf is wrong with all of these people?! The manipulation and forceful “helping” without consent?… does the author know the morals they are spouting right now seem REALLY suss? Like wtf? “Oh it’s okay to traumatize people if in your heart you know that’s what’s best for them”… that’s what I’m hearing right now.

I dislike all of the so called “adults”. I also dislike this whole narrative surrounding what they basically forced on him as ‘immersion therapy’. It’s not even that I disagree that this is what he needed. But the WAY the went about it? All respect gone.

*sigh* Screw Upgrade. I officially dislike her.

This is absolute BS. I had so much respect for Upgrade up until this point. I almost kind of wish Sal would get injured or die just so she can see how asinine this was. I can tell the narrative is going to turn this forceful event into a “good thing” and Sal will admit she was correct, but the fact remains that it’s stupid, and now I have another character I’ve lost respect for *sigh*
