God these first 2 chapters are beautiful. No one can evoke mood like Dickens

Many interesting characters. Like Powys, quite a few have their own advanced personal philosophies which I do not see in people around me in my everyday pursuit of life but that makes fiction great to me, it is more advanced than real life and quite different. Powys has the strength of a great writer to create a unique mood throughout all his works. His psyche dominates the story.
