What a perfect time to start reading this book

I cannot tell you how many times I've DNFed this book, but everyone and their dog keeps recommending it to the max~~ so here I am the third time? The fourth time? Let's see if I can get past the few chapters 😂

Goodness, this book is pretentious and insufferable. I'm reminded why I'm not a fan of most classics

Hopefully my favorite series ever will pull my out of my book slump.
Also, have no idea where I'm at % wise, just a guess.

Shocking to absolutely no one, I'm nearly through this book and already jumping to other books. Unfortunately, 2023 seems like the strange year of halfway read books. I'm not DNFing this book, I just haven't circled back to pick it up again. Nothing against this book at all, I'm heavily leaning towards at least a 4 star rating.

As the #1 book recommended to me due to my 'Mass Effect' itch, I can 100% see why.

Post-Story sadness has been hitting me after 'Mass Effect', and opening this book is like experiencing 'ME' all over again. I know, it's pretty premature to say this book will be amazing... But so far, it has me hooked with already great prose and worldbuilding.

But goodness gracious... the writing style, y'all.

If this isn't one of the more monotonous and dull books I've read in a while. This book is definitely showing it's age.

As recommended by Jesse, will I love this book? Or will the trend continue where we disagree on... well, every single book.

I just finished 'Mass Effect' (5/5 Stars, new favorite and highly recommended), and a lot of people have mentioned I would love this book.

I have high expectations. Let's go!

For (at least) the month of March, I'll be taking a step back from any title that's not religious. Sometimes, just gotta evaluate and detox spiritually and mentally from media we're consuming. I'll pick it back up at a later date with an updated review!
Quick Update though: So far enjoying it!

First time in over a week I've been able to just sit down and read. At Ch3, I was wondering if the story was going to pick up. Ch8, and now the entire US is infected. Definitely would continue binging if it wasn't bedtime.

There's a Part 2 and 3?! 😭
I thought I was almost done too.
I've only gotten through 7 chapters

First page and I'm raging, y'all.
Better pray for me, the review is gonna be interesting.

Over 200 pages of nothing happening... which is interesting considering this is supposed to be a post-apocalyptic book

I thought I was nearly at the end, but nope. Only halfway through. I have no idea what's going to happen and, frankly, I don't trust any one.

How am I only a quarter of the way through? So much has happened, and my brain currently hurts.

This book is 'Prisoner of Askaban' meets 'Zero Escape'.

So far I'm really liking this book; I needed something to get me off my 'Death Note' addiction, and this is hitting the spot!
However, reading this right before bedtime may have not been the best option.
I am now a bit spooked and cannot possibly sleep.
It's midnight.
I have church in the morning.
Please send help.

What have I done...

I read this book years ago, and I can say honestly that everything going on went over my head. Barely at Ch. 3 and I'm so excited taking notes. Already, we have an MC with subtle Implicit Bias in a world with very apparent Imperialistic and Acculturation tones going on. I can already tell I'm going to have a lot of fun dissecting and writing a review on this book.

Chapter 97/193

1811 pages left until this volume unceremoniously rips out my heart.

Almost 1000 pages in for one of my favorite books (and series)! I am 100% biased and this book is 100% 5 Stars. I'm ready for this book to completely shatter me (multiple times) and I wish I understood Korean just so I could read it in it's original translation :')

Please don't disappoint me.

Still don't trust anyone or anything happening in this book. Just got to K's 'death' and I just busted out laughing. If it's not a fake out, then he went down too easy.

Just getting major Metro Man vibes from that scene. We'll see though.

I don't trust anyone in this book.

I thought my spirit animal was Ham, but that was before Elend Venture, my man.
I just got a short scene with him and it was enough to make him my favorite character. He can brutally murder the rest of the cast and I wouldn't care, he'd still be best boi.
He better be in this book more- villain, love interest, I don't care.

Please, no one murder this character.

I am finally back to the place I was before the first DNF! Happy to report that it was a much less painful read then the first time.... and the second time...

-Hitler was a brilliant introvert with only one friend, a dysfunctional family line, and had an extra dose of Nationalism.
-He also had hints of major antisocial personality disorder, showed signs of maladaptive day dreaming, and was spoiled and entitled.
