Fromm focuses far too much on his myopic view of the Soviet’s interpretation of Marxism (Marxism Leninism) and where they extrapolated Engel’s dialectical materialism. While there is a distinct difference between Marxism Leninism and Marx’s Communism, it should be acknowledged that this is where dialectics comes into play.

Still decent read so far. Fromm’s analysis of Marx’s Alienation is fantastic.

I must say that it is incredibly frustrating, as an American reader, to see Lacan reference a myriad of psychoanalysts whose theories he gains inspiration from but not one of them have English translations of their work.

Dmitry’s love for Vera is astonishing and only a love that can be understood by those who have had the blessing and privilege to experience it. Although it is not the “movie love” that Americans have grown accustom to the fantasy of, it is a true and complicated love— a grounded love. A love that promotes the egoist to act nobly, even when it inevitably caters to their own self interest.
