Parts of this have been relatable but unfortunately it feels more like a self help book. If you want to read a book about matrescence, read Lucy Jones, less self help advice and more anecdotal and factual. Struggling to take in the points and only about a fifth into the book. Might stop reading or do a quick skim scan.

Parts I fully agree with and parts that I believe need to have more explanation and consideration of other factors. Let's see how the rest of the book goes...

Absolutely on the mark. So refreshing to read something that cuts straight to the chase. Everyone should read this.

Picked this up at a hostel while traveling in the USA about 10 years ago and read chunks of it over the years. Now watching the dramatized series, I have picked it up again and it is helping fill in so many of the questions I have. Loving reading this book and getting the fuller understanding. Very addictive!

Possibly my favourite chapter so far, 161 - 176, "Ache". Has inspired me to go swimming in those transitional seasons, especially poignant in these first few days of spring. Where can I swim? Where will I swim in the future? What is the coolest temperature which I could sustain and feel empowered from?

Loved the essay "we are all dreaming of pools". She lists a range of different pools she has swum in, a few I too have used frequently in Wellington when I lived there. I especially loved the following quote "away from the changing rooms, in the pool itself - a public body of water - I am a stronger version of myself"

Love how she connects nature back to her life and the human form. Many relative moments for me. Especially love "Where the kowhai blooms" and "The language of waves".

Loved this chapter. All about different earthquakes and tsunamis which have happened and for me as a geographer and someone who remembers these earthquakes happening and living in Wellington, definitely resonated with me. She parallels this with her understanding of anxiety. Once again related back to water. So refreshing.
