While I still enjoy the Alleyn family life, this whole mystery hinges on how drug addiction is viewed and the ridiculous dress up people used to hide their use and distribution. Every time someone said, “But I can’t betray the group!”, I thought “Oh, but you will when you’re in jail as an accessory to murder!”

The short story “Markheim” almost made me drop the collection of Golden Age short mysteries. It was like being trapped in a pub with drunk philosophers.
