i desperately need this book to pull me out of my reading slump (HAR HAR HAR HAR)

why is this the point in the book where im invested in the story? i feel like the first 40% of the familiar felt so dragged out nothing was happening then it started to pick up. i still got a little left but its just been so stale up until now :(
