What a challenging book! It is requiring some research and the help of translator notes, but I'm learning so much! The poetry is mysterious, often I have look up a passage in a second language to understand the meaning. It is so enriching, and I'm having so much fun :]

In part two I learned that what bonds large groups of humans is culture and culture is based on myths and stories. We are all dreaming at all times and trying to agree on which dream we believe in. The human mind is a bless and a curse.

By here I learned that agricultural revolution was a trap and that wheat domesticated humans (not the other way around). This book is awesome.

According to this book, guess why we humans developed our language which is so rich and complex compared to other animals: we developed it for gossiping! And for passing on the knowledge of who is safe and who is not so groups of people could combine.

After chapter 1, I'm not sure if the author is talking about rituals or using the theme "lack of rituals" to vent his discontent to neoliberalism and its branches.

This is a book I wished I'd spend my entire life reading. I am not actually reading it, degustating each page. The characters are just so fantastic. The themes he explores, the lives... I'm so in love with this book!

I think this book will sparkle new conversation in popular culture. I hope women's grievances are respected. I hope that empathy grows out of it.

I think this book includes everything missing in 1984 (George Orwell) to make it a perfect prediction (characterized) of times we live today. Super cool!

This book is taking me by surprise. The story is to exciting. The writing is so good, the choice of words, the vocabulary: witty and slightly poetic. The descriptions are also excellent. I feel completely immersed in Manhattan in the 1930s, taking a peak at the upper level society. I'm much more into it than I thought I'd be.

I'm so disappointed. The book is ruined at this point. I'll speed read only to finish it, but I have no interest in the story anymore 🙄
I'll talk about it in my review.

What a rollercoaster this book is. It started with a 5 stars scene, then it felt to a 2 stars book and I almost abandoned it. I continued reading it and it suddenly became a 5 stars again and it was a page turner all the way to the end of part one, which is half way the book. Now it felt back to a 2 stars, and I'm about to abandone it for real this time 🤔

Note for my review : Belinda e the most empowered woman from all the book I ever read. My humble opinion. Reasons for that: she's a child survivor, and she is in complete alone in life as a teenager on the streets of San Francisco. Jeremy ? Oh Jeremy, it was great while it lasted. On to the next, in search of someone who will not hurt Belinda. Is she ever going to find that person? Who's Belinda at age 45?

Note for my review: one of the things I am enjoying about this book is how Anne Rice puts the reader on the edge and keeps you there... She keeps the tension on high throughout the story. I remember learning about the arch of a story, the story warms up to a climax and then slows down again right before ending. That's a safe way to build a story. What Anne Rice does is not that. The climax was there from chapter 1.

Note for my review: ok, first, let's put into a box one thing. The characters are not real people. Thas means I will drop the moral judgment I have on them. And I will say nothing more about it for except one thing, I would not be friends with them.
Second, I'm currently reading two people portrait women by two completely opposite views. Anna Karenina and Belinda should cross paths in the #booklife one day.

A male's fantasy. Interesting characters, they are so raw and so real. The events are not the strongest part of this book, but Anne Rice write so well (she writes SO well) that it's easy to dismiss the illogical situations only to keep reading it. It feels like this book was written for a specific audience that probably was paying upfront for that type of novel. I'm not her audience, but again, she writes so well...

Goethe is cool. Now that I finished the main book and his notes on it, I think he is a cool writer. Overrated in my opinion, but intelligent, creative and passionate. I did not connect with the story as I wished. I don't know if it's because it's a translation and translations are unable to capture the depths of emotions, but I felt something missing pass half-way the book. It was poetic and inspiring though.
