Kathleen is starting The Elegance of the Hedgehog
I'm shelving this book for right now. I like it but cannot give it the concentration it deserves. Two protagonists and not my favorite style of writing. Anyway, I do NOT want to dismiss this book entirely as the plot seems to be interesting and different.
I will give it a go later on. So shelving back to the Want to Read shelve.

Unfortunately the only version of this edition was the reprint from the late 60s. While it was interesting, it was also very boring and topical for the late 60s, NASA, mad scientist, intrigue and plots galore. But it just didn't show Nancy's strength as a smart young woman and a detective. Wishing I could find the original version from the 40s.......

On the short list for the Booker Prize. I thought I would read the nominated books this year. Interesting story, A little rambling at first, there are characters who are intertwined with other characters so it comes together at some point.

Fascinating pages of Marian as a child reading her father's books. The description of her experiencing the depth of reading as a 12 year old is amazing.

I have never known of a book to break my heart and make me this angry with my white ancestors. I have just reached page 42 and I am horrified at the rampant hatred and racism that caused the deaths of so many innocent people.

Why do I keep getting interrupted while reading this book?
As I have stated previously, I am not a huge fan of chapter protagonists. But this one is so diverse that I am liking the differences between the two.
Here is to reading more before the book has to go back to the library in Kentucky. Thank goodness for Inter-library loans.

Usually not a fan of two protagonist books (one chapter for one voice and another chapter in another voice) but this one is working! Twin sisters who are very opposite. Just getting started on the book and cannot wait to see how the rest of this book unfolds.

This is one disturbing story. One that could easily be told about a third world country. Unfortunately it takes place right here in the USA. Isn't it time we make the changes we know need to be made?

Maisie Dobbs is at it again. And wonderfully so. She has never been a shrinking violet, but this time, she is really becoming a formidable woman.

Kathleen is 33% done with Shaking the Gates of Hell: A Search for Family and Truth in the Wake of the Civil Rights Revolution
In 1963 I was 3 1/2 years old. I grew up in a nice little white Birmingham suburb removed from this mess of a struggle for equality.
John Archibald has the questions and the means to ask those questions.
Would Civil Rights been accepted without the bloodshed if Methodist ministers had used their pulpits to advocate for desegregation ?
Maybe, but the stranglehold of the Klan, etc probably wouldn't have allowed it.

Kathleen is finished with The Mystery of Mrs. Christie
I tried. Not a big fan of the switching timeframes. :(
The story reads well enough, but the disconnect I felt for the characters was almost immediate. Instead of wanting to get to know them, I felt that I was an outsider and therefore, I had no interest in getting to know them or their issue.

This book is very frightening. So many parallels with today's world. I'm taking it slow and easy with this one. I wish I could say I'm loving it but that is wrong. It is moving me to think about our world and how easy it was to become complacent then and now.
