Don't know if I'm being stupid, or I'm just trying to concentrate on too many things at once, but this book doesn't make any sense.

Okay so I know it's fiction and you have to create "plausible" scenarios for your characters to meet cute, but 1) no one is this mean in real life and 2) there are always more than 2 people not eating the normal meal at a wedding. I know because I used to work kitchen staff at weddings.
