There is a strong chance this will be DNF. The "girls can't be war heros" line is so on the nose I feel punched on mine. The writing has the cadence of an epic but none of the art of one. And why can't she keep track of her own timeline? It's distracting.

WHY. Why would the supposedly cleverest, bestest lady in the whole wide world do THAT. Why would she just forget that there are essential secrets to keep for safety. I get that her character is often (stated to be) stubborn and (proven to be) decisively reckless. But WHY WOULD SHE DO THAT.

I want to DNF but I'm several hundred pages in and I want the credit, dammit.

But WHY is she good at magic? I'm frustrated.

I think this is going to be one of my favorite books. I can't wait to rant about it and quote it obnoxiously.
