I am disappointed with this book as had expected it to be very good after seeing endorsements from Amitav Ghosh and Robert McFarlane. I amd trying to push through. Some bits have been interesting and well written but a lot of it has just dragged on.

A beautiful and poignant book which weaves a personal story with political developments in Afghanistan. The characters are brought to life by Husseini’s adept cultural referencing. I was fascinated by his descriptions of Afghani customs and life before the Taliban as this resonated with the life in Delhi that I remember from my childhood.
