I can't book the book down. I wanted to update my progress and I saw some of the negative comments on the book. While I do agree it isn't as seamless as it could be, I still think its an interesting story. The pictures didn't match the image I had of the characters: I keep fixing my view of them as kids to teens so that hindered my experience but I'm still avidly into it.

I love "Alex's" letter to Franz when Alex was in Carthage, South Dakota. The part where he says" have an endlessly changing horizon" pushed me enough to write this comment

Janie as a heroine reminds me of Jane Eyre except she's determined to fulfill herself romantically, while Jane was determined to fulfill herself independently.

Wow. I did not realize how much Dominicans hate Haitians.

I don't understand what happened in the second chapter. And can someone explain what this simile means Pg 5" and my brother...anger of a man cheated with a son, who was like a demon with a horse, and a pale girl with a flower".

It's very good so far. I really like the spot I'm at. I thought this was going to be a simple read like a children's book but it's not at all.

I think it's pretty good so far. There are certain parts where I'm eager to flip the page but not all the time.

If I started this at the library and not at home I would have surely put it down immediately after the first 3 pages. I don't like the sentence structure and the language is appalling. The only thing that is keeping me going is the image i have for the main character.

The beginning is extremely slow. The only parts worth reading were the parts with his family and the people he encountered. I did find interest in the parts where he paralleled the life of some of the zoo animals to the human life. But I felt bored with the parts about zoology and what he did in school or whatever.

Im loving the gradual romance between mr. Rochester and Jane.this is how love should progress in a book. Too many modern pieces of literature miss this technique that Charlotte Bronte efficiently uses.
