Death Around the Bend (Lady Hardcastle Mysteries, #3)
Not as engaging as the first book. I was surprised by the writing when I read the first book. That's probably why I enjoyed it so much. Having said that, this book very readable too even if nothing much has happened so far apart from a death.

A Quiet Life in the Country (Lady Hardcastle Mysteries, #1)
This isn't what you'd call an edge-of-the-seat page-turner. 63% gone & the bare minimum has happened for it to qualify for a murder mystery. However, the charm of the book lies in the writing, which keeps you engaged as the story saunters along in the most leisurely fashion. It lulls you into a relaxed read that is uncommon for a murder mystery. Come to think it is, it's probably not intended as a whodunnit.

A Quiet Life in the Country (Lady Hardcastle Mysteries, #1)
This is my first book by this author, and I am quite enjoying the breezy and flippant narration. Agreeable sprinkling of understated humour as well. Nicely written with interesting protagonists. As a murder mystery, not much has happened up to the halfway-mark. Hope more happens in the second half.

Death at the Durbar
Feels very much like the author's first book had, and it seems to suffer from the same drawbacks. The wordy, florid writing is putting me off, though not as much as it had in the earlier book. I find the protagonist difficult to care for. I hope that the plot will be meatier. A distinct positive is that this book moves faster.

A Very Pukka Murder: The First Maharajah Mystery
The dominant feature of this book is the language/writing. Overly descriptive and uses three words where one would do. Yes, it is a nice break from very ordinary English that you find in many Indian commercial fiction. But this book overdoes it. It was nice for the first 10% or so, but has now become tiresome. Not much of the story has unfolded yet. Can't comment on the plot/mystery/story yet.

Cut Like Wound
Slow. Real slow. A few paragraphs of movement sandwiched between pages of introspection and backstories.

Patang
Fast start with short scenes. Rocketing along. Fair bit of masala thrown in, quite filmy (like before discovery of the 2nd body). A fair dose of cuss words too. Haven't yet met a character I can like.

Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, #2)
It's been a couple of months since I reached page 700, but I've still not been able to get back to this book.
It's disappointing how once a franchise is milked once it has been created. This book could have been half the size or less. Commerce all the way.
One thing is clear - I'll not be buying another Brandon Sanderson tome again. I gave away "Way of Kings". I'll give this away once I finish it.

Set it aside and returned after a couple of weeks. Like the story, but the book is just toooooo loooong. Trudging along.

The King of Torts
A typical Grisham - a young lawyer; temptation of serious money; a big, bad corporation; a world where only money matters. Status is gauged by the car one drives. Blunt writing with no nuances. In other words, pulp fiction.

Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, #2)
Disappointing. Over 500 pages gone, and little has happened other than the author killing off the character I found the most interesting. And oh, some guys have discovered a super power or two. The story has just meandered for 500 pages!
Instead of his writing getting better with time, Sanderson has gone the other way. Reminds me of Christoper Paolini. The characters are unconvincing and the writing uninspiring.

The story just got more bizarre, and Dalinar and Kaladin less convincing. But I'm told that this second book is better than the first. I hope so.

At last, some honourable characters in the story. It's still slow.
I don't know if Sanderson is attempting to emulate Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. If he is, it's not working for me. His writing isn't as evocative as Jordan's or as haunting.

Enjoying it so far. The language, which resembles English, is that of a cocky Delhi teenager of the female variety. The writing is witty and lively. Nothing literary about it. So far, so good.

The Vulture Fund
Was recommended this NYT bestselling author by a friend. Fast, sleazy and shallow. Everyone is a crook - VP of the USA, Wall Street guys, CIA, FBI, everyone. Very difficult to believe. Feels like pulp fiction.
