I'm trying my best to suspend disbelief and accept all religions as valid, but so far, dark skin is connected to being lazy and possessed of iniquity and Jews will have things like the holocaust happen to them until they believe Jesse (Jesus) was the Messiah.

Currently finding it hard to finish this book. The author is clearly intelligent, but he's also so full of shit concerning his 1.) basic premises 2.) his obviously myopic view of native religions that aren't Zuni or Shoshone.

oh snap. Gaius Curio, sent by Caesar to take Africa from the Republicans, just got dealt with by King Juba of Numidia. His entire army has been surrounded and killed to the last man, including him. Caesar better get down there and avenge his boy.

I'm reading the early-mid 20th century version so it's kinda ponderous and full of garden-path sentences. So far, Caesar has done pretty well drawing cohort levies to his cause from the forces of Pompeius, but he's currently throwing them away in Spain right now with the meat grinder his men find themselves in after running into a narrow defile.
