love how unrelentingly childish the gods are. apollo picking a fight with baby hermes, fry’s characterization of hermes… he’s literally stewie griffin i kinda love him. also prometheus is actually the GOAT what the hell. i love you prometheus forever

listening to the audio book of this, incredible how informative while also relatable and funny Stephen Fry makes this stuff. modern retelling in some aspects with respect to the actual mythology and culture around said myths.

The entire battle of Helm's Deep was fantastic, Tolkien somehow manages to keep things brief while also putting so much emotion and movement behind it. Seeing the party travel through the Ent's forest after the battle was really interesting, Gimli ranting to Legolas about the beauty of Helm's Deep, the both of them promising to show eachother the beauty of Fangorn and the beauty of Helm's Deep after all is over.

something about this book is soo much more visual and visceral than the last few for me. i can feel everything. i love it

hearing jaime lannister’s inner monologue is just soo fantastic. he’s as tactical and shitty and full of himself, yet still practical as you could hope. and learning more about Brienne and seeing his reaction to someone so incredibly different from himself is just an awesome dichotomy

The beginning chapter, is so just holy Shit. when martin wants to make a Bad Guy he really has no trouble. i love everything to do with the North so much it’s so bleak and oppressing and WILD. THREE HORNS!!!

truly so beautiful and well written, even something as quick and simple as a passing mention of Rodrik’s fall at sea brings to mind old master paintings of stormy seas and billowing winds.

it’s so fun finishing a chapter and then seeing the name of the next POV switch and immediately considering all the possible scenarios and reactions that might pop up. love the camaraderie between snow and tyrion so much

really love how fleshed out all the relationships are. i know that these books are super name heavy especially a book or two in but it’s a fun challenge keeping all the relationships and houses in order in my head. also jon snow.. id die for you.

i never watched much of the show but seeing more exposition on some of the early short scenes is so nice, especially noticed it in the Bran climbing scene
