The book is a fast paced cutsey romance but the fact that Waylay is only 11 and the entire town is constantly talking about how her mom is a POS in front of her, or how Naomi doesn’t want to be identified as her must be hard. Obvious, yes because it’s fact but again the child is a child and was just abandoned :(

Her ocd tendencies are so relatable and her obsession with not misbehaving as a child and having things all “like so” 🫠

It’s written like their relationship is okay and accepted between the two of them, but it is kind of one sided and Wendy seems to be resentful although she tries convincing everyone she is not

I swear I know who pushed him right from the beginning and I don’t want to write it here for it to be a spoiler but I want to mark it down as a note because the way some things were mentioned I feel like it was obvious for when I do my review

Where he talks about his theory and wonders about a different life I don’t feel it’s to make the reader feel bad for him, and I don’t, he is an adult. If he was feeling bad about the fox or how he felt “nothing” all the time, he could have spoken to someone about it. I know there’s a nature vs. nurture component but people all the time grow up AWFUL and come out the most amazing people you’d ever meet.

I like how the book was written. It’s descriptive and irritating at times but I think it brings up a lot of good points that could be discussed. It makes you wish that “innocent until proven guilty” wasn’t a thing almost because of what occurs and there were so many times he could have been brought in, but we know why it is the way it is and then the death penalty is a whole different factor.

When he explains that the system is flawed and makes valid points but then sort of compares his wrongs to Big Bears.. it invalidates everything. One man unknowingly shot officers that broke into his home with a warrant, for the wrong address. The other purposefully murdered 3 girls to “get himself to feel something.” While both wrong.. those are very different.

I got really irritated about here because it goes to show that even if you’re really good at something, it doesn’t matter. There’s always someone above you that will continue to do things the way that “works” “the way we have always done it” or “what makes sense” … except it doesn’t + it doesn’t work because the world would be a better place and like a lot things, those choices are fueled by $

I hate this. I’ve had to put it down a million times because it’s repulsive and pisses me off.

The nerve of Barbara to call a child insufferable, and to play the victim, when she is that herself is mind blowing. She wrote this character so well because there are so many people like this and it is awful.
