WHY DID I THINK THIS BOOK WOULD BE FUN

Having a hard time picking this up consistently because I know she's going to fall in love and get married and then her husband is going to die tragically and that is like the exact opposite of every book I've read in the last five years...

Omfg I loved Kit Webb but this might be even better

I've read lots of pretend-to-be-someone-else scenarios, but I don't think I've ever had this much secondhand anxiety about it... 😰

I picked this up because it was in my Kindle and it's short (I need to catch up on my reading challenge!) but it's slow going because I just don't caaaare

Drama-ramaaaaaa

This book is so hard to read. Chanel's writing is raw and heartbreaking.
But everyone should read it, because it's the least we can do to start changing a society that values young men's sports careers so much more than young women's safety.

I get WHY a bunch of people have cowboy accents, but it doesn't mean I like it...

I wouldn't quite classify it as un-put-down-able, but I did yell at my husband when he tried to interrupt my reading.

So far, a sweet slow burn augmented with some grade-A pining.

Not usually into either babies or first person narrative (especially with alternating viewpoints), but I'm having fun.

I thought this was festive short stories and so far that appears to be wrong on both counts, but I'm entertained so I guess I will press on!

Whoops, apparently I checked this out on Hoopla 2 weeks ago and promptly forgot about it!

Foolishly started reading before work, so now I have to put it down and try to be productive. But it's FOR work, which means I can sneak a couple pages in, right?

The name-dropping is getting exhausting. Why reference all these things we're presumably supposed to recognize and then painstakingly explain them?

Let's be honest, this book is kind of scaring the shit out of me...

Not what I was used to expecting from Mercedes Lackey -- which is not in itself a bad thing -- but so far disappointingly reminiscent of certain other dystopian YA books with female protagonists.

Amelia Bedelia meets A Series of Unfortunate Events, so far.

So far I'm not really a fan... I get that it's a diary format, but there's way too much 'oh hey, I guess I should tell you about .... now' and 'I'll tell you more about .... later.'

THREE HUNDRED PAGES IN, AND I JUST REALIZED I HAD TWO MAJOR CHARACTERS MIXED UP.

So far, decidedly mediocre... I recall being also unimpressed by Steampunk'd, another short story collection with the same editor. Not sure if Jean Rabe and I just have different tastes or what. Somehow, it seems that a lot of the steampunk I've read comes across as amateurish. Maybe I just need to read real books instead of short stories and self-published ebooks.

I can't help but feel that page 355 is a little late to be explaining hyperspace travel...

So far, I am full of cringing empathy.

Picked this up again... Still really confusing to me. Feels like it should be a sequel with all the vague references to previous events, but I know it's not...
