I read "Foul Lady Fortune" before watching/reading anything Three Kingdoms-related, so now I'm reading this I keep imagining the servant, Ah Dou, as being Ah Dou as in Liu Shan, Liu Bei's son. In my head it's like there's just one guy dressed like an ancient Chinese noble amongst all the other characters.

This might sound really weird, but it feels like there's a big elephant in the room with RACISM emblazoned on its side that somehow isn't being acknowledged. The whole town is all about Confederate Pride (but don't worry, our main character and his parents were always "more liberal") and yet the very obvious connotations of that are just kinda... skirted around. Or, it feels that way to me, at least. Odd!

I borrowed this from the library and I am going there today to drop off the other books I borrowed and just... don't really feel inclined to finish it. It's a shame because it's a topic I find interesting and I've learnt some cool stuff but it doesn't seem to know if it's a coffee table book or a costume history book and I'm not enjoying it as either :(
